Welcome to Space City!
Back in the 1960's and early 1970's Gerry and Sylvia Anderson created some
truly excellent science fiction shows. They featured many superb vehicles. It's
the models of these craft that we concentrate on here. We've created original
images
featuring toys and models from Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain
Scarlet
and U.F.O. A publication like this wouldn't be complete without Terry Nation's
Daleks - so
you'll find them here too.
|
Over the years, many toys and models from these series have been produced - and
a lot are still being manufactured today.
In recent years a new way to make models has emerged - 3d computer graphics.
Using Cinema 4D, Truespace and Bryce we've created models of Space City,
Marineville,
Moonbase and many of the craft from the various Anderson shows. We used
computer
graphics to create and animate models for the menus and linking screens on the
Carlton
Fireball XL5 DVDs.
We created all of the pictures here at Space City using our own toys and models.

Who produces the toys and model kits?
A lot of our models are injection molded plastic kits produced by Imai and
other Japanese companies.
Others are resin, vac-form plastic and metal kits from a variety of small
companies. Toys are
predominantly Dinky Toys from the 1960's and also the more recent Matchbox,
Vivid Imaginations and Product Enterprise releases. Konami have produced a
highly detailed range of
models. Although they are sold as "candy toys" in Japan, these are possibly
the most accurate
Anderson models commercially produced.
Where possible we'll note the manufacturer of the models on display here.

SHADO MOON MODULE PASSING OVER MOONBASE
Moonbase is Earth's first line of defence against hostile alien intruders.
The Moon Module is SHADO's ferry rocket to take personnel to and from this
vital installation.
We created this image using our 3d graphics and a resin and metal model kit of
the rocket.
Take a look at the
U.F.O.
section for more images.

This is International Rescue's spaceship - and our second Thunderbird CGI model.
We built this model using Truespace.

Terry Nation's DALEKS
The Daleks were first seen on T.V. in 1963.
During the 1960's they featured in a comic strip on the back page of TV21
comic, a magazine famous for it's Gerry Anderson show stories and pictures.
Though the Daleks were created by Terry Nation, not Gerry Anderson, it seems
fitting that they should have a place on our Space City website.
The Dalek shown here is a 1/5 vacform kit produced by Sevans Models in the
1980's.
See the
Daleks
section for more pictures and information about these evil creatures.
